Hi there, and welcome to my blog! I am currently doing a little nervous but happy dance because this is my first post, and I’ve finally decided to take the plunge! My name is Lauren, and I decided to start She Sees the World for a few reasons.
- Traveling is an important goal and value in my life, and I wanted a way to hold myself accountable to pursuing it while also keeping a record of my experiences.
- I believe that documenting and sharing life experiences can open a lot of very cool avenues for connecting with others, and hopefully helping each other along the way.
- I plan to use this as an avenue for making travel more meaningful, both for myself and for those who visit this site.
That third point may be the most important to me in writing this blog. I believe that travel can be an incredible way to challenge and expand our perspectives – and to connect with humans all over the world in meaningful ways. By traveling, we have the opportunity and the privilege to interact with people, communities, and cultures that are new to us, and to learn from the similarities and differences that we share. We have the chance to shift our perspectives in ways that are more inclusive, more empathetic, and more inspired, and we can form bonds with others that move us for a lifetime. We might learn more about what we truly value in life – and what we may let go. Travel can help us to grow in a beautiful, pivotal way.
Also, it’s fun! Us humans often crave to learn about and be exposed to new things. It’s how we are wired. While comfort and safety are also very important, we are driven to take in new information about our environment. It allows us to learn and to move forward in our lives with greater wisdom, awareness, and creativity. Traveling allows us to do this in an intentional way, and in a manner that embraces our fellow humans. When we travel, we meet this deep-seeded need on conscious terms – terms that include active exploration, applied learning, and authentic human connection.
These ideas are at the core of why I’m starting this blog. I want to help others see and be inspired by the power of adventure, to share in the fun and the learning along the way, and to contribute to a sense of community for all who are interested in experiencing this incredible world we live in.
A little about me:
I am based in Colorado, USA and have lived here for almost exactly one year. I grew up in Charleston, West Virginia and have a special place in my heart for the small, connected communities of Appalachia. Before moving to Colorado, I lived in the urban sprawl of Southern California for 4 years. I had some incredibly formative and life-enhancing experiences there, which I will certainly share more about. Also, it’s where I met my amazing partner of 4 years!
I have a bachelor’s degree in biology and am constantly inspired by the natural world. Here in Colorado, I work as a Museum Educator and am regularly reveling in the fact that I get to be around exhibits, scientists, students, and fellow educators at my job. When I’m not at the museum, I can often be found at a local coffee shop, thrifting, or cozying up with my partner and two cats, Ralph and Theo. My hobbies include fashion design and sewing (working on a blog for that, too!), dancing, and dreaming about my next adventure!
I will be sharing more in the very near future, but I will leave things here for now. I look forward to sharing more of myself and my travels and to connecting with you! Thank you for visiting my site, and I hope my first entrée into blogging has been entertaining and inspiring for you. Please stop by again 🙂
Take care, and safe travels!
Lauren
